Who we are and what we believe
New Unity is a radically inclusive community of love and justice, open and welcoming to people of all faiths and none.
New Unity is a Unitarian congregation, part of the UK Unitarian movement consisting of approximately 150 congregations around the country. British Unitarian congregations vary a great deal, yet most are committed to social engagement, and incorporate wisdom from a wide range of religious and secular sources.
Our congregation consists of people with varied faith heritages including Humanist, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, atheist, agnostic, and pagan backgrounds. As religious liberals, and as Unitarians, we place less emphasis on formal beliefs and more on our relationships with each other and on practical living. We believe that ultimately, faith is not so much the creeds we say, as it is the lives we live, which is why we seek constantly to be involved in issues that matter.
Our members have been active in the struggle for racial equality, LGBTQ+ rights, climate justice, civil liberty, international peace, and equal rights for all peoples. We work as individuals, in congregational social action, and partner with our local community and organisations. We also support and assist other community organisations reaching out to the impoverished and oppressed.
