Here to pledge? Scroll down to 'Annual membership'.
For many of us, New Unity is a beacon of hope and community in challenging times. With financial support, we can work together to achieve the important goal of building love and justice in our community and our world. Please see below for the many ways you can support New Unity, as well as other local charities.
What is a pledge? Here at New Unity, we ask you to make an annual pledge in order to be added to our membership list. This pledge can be anything from £1 upwards; some people pledge in this region, while others pledge four-figure sums (and everything in between). You can pledge any time of the year, but the best time to do it is around February/March so that the next year’s worth of income can be accurately budgeted.
Pledging involves filling out a form, which you can do here, followed by making a bank transfer. The bank details appear once you’ve filled out the form, or you can get them from the office. It’s vital to make sure you both fill out the form and make the payment you pledge - if you only send the money without filling out the form, you won’t be counted as a member.
What is a donation? Sometimes, people make donations on top of their pledges. Or sometimes people don’t want to join as members right now, for a number of reasons, but still want to support New Unity. In this instance, you can make a donation at this link.
What’s the offertory? The offertory is held during every Sunday gathering. A long-held tradition at NU is for collections to be passed on to local external charities.
Offertory donations can be made using the same online form as donations made to New Unity. How do we know which donation is for NU, and which is for the external charity? Any donations sent using that form between 11am and 1pm on Sundays will automatically be passed on to the chosen charities - so if you donate then, you can be confident your donation will reach the right place. You can also donate to the offertory in person using the donation bag or the SumUp machine. If you donate outside of this time slot, New Unity will keep your donation for its own general funds.

New Unity has a proud history of building love and justice which stretches back centuries. Mary Wollstonecraft’s influential feminist ideals were born and nurtured within the walls of our Meeting House, and the actions of our ministers and campaigners over the centuries have inspired revolutions and major social change. We’ve campaigned recently on everything from legalising same sex marriage to fighting climate change. We want to take our work of community-building and justice-seeking to the next level, and to be able to fund the staff and the resources required for that. “Justice,” said Cornel West, “is what love looks like in public”. In an age of political and climate uncertainty, we want to make sure that we are doing all we can to make our communities and world as just as possible.
To bring our budget in line with our collective ambitions, we are asking you to share your treasure as generously as you can. New Unity is a democratic organisation, and everyone is free to contribute within their means. No pledge or donation is too big or too small.

Important information about pledging
At New Unity, a pledge is different to a one-off donation. A pledge is a financial commitment to pay a certain sum of money over the course of the financial year, and in return for that, you become a member.
There are some really important things to note, summarised as follows: you need to let us know using the form (or email to nick@new-unity.org) that your pledge is intended as a pledge and not a one-off donation, and you need to do this every year (even if you're already a member or already have a Direct Debit set up), and you have the option to declare Gift Aid to support NU further.
And here are the details...
1) By far the easiest way to tell us about your pledge is to fill out the pledge form above. This must be the form that says "SUPPORT NEW UNITY - BECOME A MEMBER". The form further down that says "DONATE TO NEW UNITY TODAY" is just for those who are making one-off donations: please do not use that form for your pledge. If you do, we won't have any way to know you want to be a member rather than just a one-off donor. Thanks!
2) Your pledge can be paid at any time during the 2024-25 financial year, which begins on April 1st 2024. The best way is to pay in monthly installments via Direct Debit or standing order. As above, you need to fill out the form to renew your membership for 2024-25, even if you already have an existing Direct Debit or standing order set up and even if you filled out the form in a previous year.
The bank details appear at the end of the pledge form process online, or are here:
Account name: New Unity
Account Number: 00028377
Sort code: 40-52-40
If it is at all possible for you pay using online or telephone banking, please choose this option. If you would like to send a cheque, please email nick@new-unity.org first; our office isn't staffed every day, so we'll need to co-ordinate times for safe delivery.
3) Remember that if you're a UK taxpayer you can consider declaring Gift Aid on your donation. This allows New Unity to claim an extra amount on top of your donation! Details on how to do this, and what it entails, are in the online form. Any questions? Email Nick on nick@new-unity.org.
Dear Ones,
You didn’t think I’d let a leap year go unnoticed, did you? 2024 is a leap year and we have an opportunity before us to take an important leap with New Unity. This time of year, we renew our membership and financial commitments to the congregation and encourage those who are not already members to become members and commit financially. Our pledge campaign will run from 18th February through 18th March 2024.
We have many leaps to make and need your support. In this next year, you will experience a new and diverse music programme, a new Kids’ Club attracting families and young people to New Unity, and new signage outside of our building that allows everyone to see and experience New Unity in the here and now. You’ll experience the addition of programmes and structures that support you, the community around us, and our commitment to justice, making New Unity the centre of our community. We’ll begin an exciting new community arts programme making New Unity a hub for artistic engagement in North London, and much more.
Support what is important to you and us at New Unity. Your pledge and membership are for justice, equality, compassion, freedom and dissent. Help New Unity fund its staff, programmes, buildings and spaces, and its voice in the world. Be a part of becoming what we want to be.
With your generosity and commitment to membership, we can only leap from what we are to what we want to be. The congregation relies on your gifts of time, treasure, and talent to grow and thrive. Consider why New Unity is important to you and sustain the gift of this congregation in our lives. Below you will find more information about how to make your pledge, thus renewing your membership. I am sending you my deepest gratitude for supporting our congregation.
You need to let us know using the website form below (click on “Support New Unity - become a member”), or email to nick@new-unity.org, that your pledge is intended as a pledge and not a one-off donation. You need to do this every year (even if you're already a member or already have a Direct Debit set up). You also have the option to declare Gift Aid to support NU further. Please ensure you read the information on the website about how to make your pledge.
Leaping with you,
Rev. CJ
One-off donations
One-off donations are, of course, extremely welcome! Some people like to make a donation in addition to their pledge. Others prefer only to make a donation. In either case, your support is tremendously important and appreciated!
If you’re donating during a Sunday Gathering, your net donation will go towards our chosen charity for that month as part of the offertory. All donations made between 11am and 1pm on Sundays will be ringfenced for this purpose. In September 2024 we’re raising funds for Hackney Children and Baby Bank.
This applies only to donations made using the form; it’s not possible to donate to the offertory via bank transfer.
Administrating the donations made to local charities takes up a lot of staff time that New Unity has to pay for. For that reason, 10% of all donations to the offertory made from June 1st 2024 onwards will be retained by New Unity to help cover this cost.
“The Hackney Children & Baby Bank was set up in June 2020 - originally named the E5 Baby Bank - in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to provide struggling families with clean clothes, toys, nappies, toiletries and kitchen utensils. We work with refugee families, trafficked women, survivors of domestic abuse, parents affected by the pandemic and other families who need our help. In the summer of 2021, we fundraised for over 200 Afghan refugee families who we continue to support and in 2022, we're supporting Help Ukraine to get supplies to Ukrainian refugees in Poland.”
