Our regular Sunday Gathering. An opportunity for wisdom, joy, solace, and community – followed by a healthy dose of caffeine, cake, and conversation.
Today's Gathering includes live music, a story for children, singing, poetry and literature, a talk from New Unity member Qaisar Siddiqui, and time for sharing joys and sorrows.
The theme of this week's Gathering is 'Finding Away':
Epic mountains, shimmering lakes, mile-long beaches, bustling cities - travel has always been one of humanity’s most fertile sources of inspiration. Countless writers and artists have adventured their way through and across continents for the sake of epic literature and art, while philosophers and prophets have detailed the value of journeys for their own sake of crafting a worldview, or to dream of new myths and ideas. But is it necessary to be beholden to such romantic ideas of travel in order to reap benefits beyond a light tan and Instagram selfies?
As part of our season exploring sources of inspiration, we’ll be looking at the ways in which travel can invigorate, terrify, challenge, and enlighten us. Beyond the cliches of finding oneself on the summits of mountains, we’ll be drawing on the work of poets and voyagers across time to see how the simple of act of not being home can change our lives in ways that we may not quite expect, whether we’re hiking through Nepal or throwing up in Ibiza.
